Government banned 67 porn websites, know the reason

Government of India has issued an order to block 67 porn websites. A directive has been issued by the Central Government to Internet Service Provider companies, in which it has been asked to block 67 porn websites that violate IT rules. The Pune and Uttarakhand High Court had also ordered in the same case.

Internet service provider companies have been asked by the Department of Telecom (DoT) to block 67 porn websites in an email. In 2021, the government implemented a new IT rule. Websites that have been asked to block have been found to be in violation of this rule. The order issued said that under the new IT rule, it is mandatory for Internet service provider companies to block such porn content which violates the IT Rules 2021. According to this rule, it is mandatory to block such content, in which any person is shown wholly or partially naked. DoT had sent an email in this regard to all internet service provider companies on September 24.

What is IT Rules 2021 (IT Act 2021)
IT Rules 2021 provide that companies have the right to delete data that they save, publish or host. It states that such content in which any person is shown wholly or partially naked, can be removed by the company. The new IT rule was implemented from May 26 last year.

Under the new IT rules, it has been made mandatory for OTT platforms in India to create a system for grievance redressal as well. It includes all those platforms which have more than 50 lakh users. The new rule states that it is mandatory to publish a report of the action taken on any complaint that comes to the platform. In such a situation, there was also displeasure for the government of OTT platforms regarding the new IT rule.
