Google Photos New Feature: “Undo Device Backup” Feature – What You Need to Know

Google Photos, a popular app for managing photos and videos, is rolling out a new feature called “Undo Device Backup.” This feature allows users to delete photos and videos from their Google Photos account while keeping them on their device. Here’s everything you need to know about this new functionality.

What is the “Undo Device Backup” Feature?

The “Undo Device Backup” feature enables users to delete photos and videos from their Google Photos backup, but these files will still remain on their phone. It is a handy tool for those who wish to free up space in their Google Photos account without losing their photos or videos from their device.

When is This Feature Useful?

This feature comes in handy when you want to delete specific photos or videos from your Google Photos backup but don’t want them to be removed from your phone. However, once you delete your Google Photos backup, Google will stop backing up content from that device until you enable backup again.

How to Use the “Undo Device Backup” Feature?

To use the new feature, follow these steps:

  1. Open the Google Photos app.
  2. Tap on your profile picture in the top-right corner.
  3. Go to Google Photos settings and select Backup.
  4. Scroll down and tap on Undo backup for this device.
  5. Tick the box confirming “I understand my photos and videos from this device will be deleted from Google Photos”.
  6. Finally, click on the “Delete Google Photos backup” button.

Availability

Currently, this feature is being rolled out for iOS users, with plans for it to be available on Android devices in the near future.

Other Recent Google Photos Updates

In addition to this new feature, Google Photos recently introduced an update that provides users with an easier way to track new activities in shared albums. The company is also working on a feature to notify users about photos edited using AI tools.

With this new “Undo Device Backup” feature, Google Photos users can have more control over their content, allowing them to manage backups and storage more effectively while keeping their photos safe on their devices.
