Google Maps Location History : Google Maps is bringing new features for the privacy of users, in which Google is changing the way it handles users’ location data. The advantage of this feature is that Google Maps will not store users’ data such as app location history etc. on its server, rather the users’ data will remain on their device. Google Maps has also renamed the Location History feature to Timeline.
Google Maps Timeline Data: When will the features be released
Google is gradually rolling out this feature to some users. But its deadline has been set to December 1, 2024. That is, after December 1, 2024, all users will be able to take advantage of this feature. This feature is being introduced to protect user data. That is, if you travel somewhere, your location history will remain in your control. Google will store all location history data locally on your Android or iOS device, which will also include data of any restaurant you have visited.
End-to-end encryption for timelines
To further improve the security of data, Google Maps gets an end-to-end encrypted cloud backup for Timeline. According to the company, only users can access this backup, making it even more secure. This feature has been launched only for app users. The web version of Timeline will not be available on the web. That is, users will not be able to view their timeline on the desktop. However, this feature will continue to work on Google Maps for Android and iOS. This means that location data will no longer be synced across devices.
