Google Chrome Users Alerted: Critical Security Flaw Detected — Update Immediately

Urgent Warning for Google Chrome Users: Update Your Browser Immediately to Avoid a Major Security Risk

A serious warning has been issued for users of the Google Chrome internet browser. A critical security flaw has been discovered that could potentially expose users’ personal data. Google is urging all users to update their browsers immediately to stay protected.

If you use Google Chrome, this update is crucial. Google recently reported a severe security vulnerability in Chrome that is already being actively exploited online. The flaw allows hackers to remotely execute malicious code on a user’s system—posing a major cybersecurity threat. This vulnerability, officially named CVE-2025-6554, has been classified as high severity.

What’s the issue?

The flaw has been found in Chrome’s V8 JavaScript engine, which powers many of the browser’s key functions. Google has confirmed that the flaw is currently under active exploitation, meaning attackers are already using it to target users.

How attackers can exploit it

To exploit the flaw, hackers create specially crafted malicious web pages. When a user visits such a page in Chrome, the attacker can run harmful code on the user’s computer. This code may install viruses, data-stealing programs, or other dangerous software—potentially giving hackers full control of the system. The vulnerability, categorized as a “Type Confusion” bug in V8, was discovered on June 25 by Clément Lecigne of Google’s Threat Analysis Group.

Google releases a security update

Google has rolled out an update to patch this vulnerability. The latest Chrome versions are:

  • Windows: 138.0.7204.96 and 138.0.7204.97

  • macOS: 138.0.7204.92 and 138.0.7204.93

  • Linux: 138.0.7204.92

As of now, Android and iOS platforms remain unaffected, so no updates are required for mobile devices. However, desktop users are strongly advised to update their browsers immediately.

How to update Chrome manually

If your browser hasn’t updated automatically, you can do it manually:

  1. Click the three-dot menu in the top-right corner of Chrome.

  2. Go to Help > About Google Chrome.

  3. Chrome will check for updates and begin downloading the latest version.

  4. Once the update is complete, restart the browser to apply the changes.
