Today Vladimir Putin received a report from the new Director General of Roscosmos, Yury Borisov. The head of the state corporation said that Russia will fulfill all its obligations on the ISS to foreign partners, but the decision to leave the station after 2024 has been made.
“You know that we are working within the framework of international cooperation on the International Space Station. Of course, we will fulfill all our obligations to our partners, but the decision and the departure from this station after 2024 have been made.“, Borisov said. He noted that by that time Roskosmos would begin to form a Russian orbital service station.
Yuri Borisov added that the future of Russian manned cosmonautics should be based on a balanced and systematic scientific program so that each flight enriches the country with knowledge in the field of space.
Dmitry Rogozin also spoke about the fact that the decision on Russia’s future participation in the ISS project has already been made, but he did not voice the decision itself. Now this has been done by the new head of the state corporation. As far as the USA is concerned, NASA until the last hoped that Russia would continue to participate in the project until 2030 – Until that time, the United States plans to operate the ISS. One of the important problems for the current partners in the project will be the adjustment of the station’s orbit, since the engines of Progress MS space trucks docked to the ISS are now used for this.
