New Delhi. Markets regulator SEBI has increased the investment limit for retail investors buying debt securities in a public issue by way of payment through the UPI system from Rs 2 lakh to Rs 5 lakh. Giving this information in a circular on Tuesday, the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) said that the new provision will be applicable on public issues of debt securities opened on or after May 1, 2022.
Under the existing SEBI norms, investors get the option to invest up to Rs 2 lakh in issue of debt securities through the UPI system. After this change, this investment limit will increase to Rs 5 lakh. The market regulator has decided to increase the investment limit from UPI from Rs 2 lakh to Rs 5 lakh to bring uniformity in provisions based on discussions with participants.
