According to the information revealed, Mahindra is about to bring a new entry level 4×4 variant of the Thar SUV. This could be the base AX variant that was brought at the time of launch but was then discontinued. This is great news for the prospective customers.
The Mahindra Thar AX 4×4 will be offered with two engine options – a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol and a 2.2-litre diesel engine, but will be made available only with a manual gearbox. It will not be offered with the 1.5-litre diesel engine option.
The Mahindra Thar AX 4×4 is targeted towards off-road enthusiasts and as such, being the base variant, it will not be offered with many features. Currently, the 4X4 variant starts from Rs 13.59 Lakh and goes up to Rs 16.49 Lakh.
In the Indian market, Maruti is going to bring Maruti Jimny soon in this segment and in such a situation, Mahindra is going to bring Thar AX 4×4 to give tough competition to it so that its sales remain good. The Jimny is going to be an alternative to the Thar.
Thar is known for its efficiency and when the new model was brought under this brand, it became the best selling car of the company within a few months. In such a situation, Mahindra wants to maintain this status of Thar.
Talk about the production of Mahindra Thar, recently the company has crossed the production figure of 1 lakh units. Customers are now buying this SUV not only for off-roading but also for city driving.
The Mahindra Thar SUV is currently available in a choice of 4X4 and RWD variants. The company is soon going to update its engine. It will be updated according to the BS6 Phase 2 standard, as well as its price can also be increased.
The new Mahindra Thar was launched on 2nd October 2020. The new Thar was brought in two trims AX and LX. The LX variant is meant for casual usage while the VX variant is specially designed for adventure and off road riding.
