What is Social Security Agreement

Let us tell you that EPFO ​​has entered into a Social Security Agreement (SSA) with 19 countries. This includes countries like Belgium, Germany, Switzerland, Denmark France, Luxembourg, South Korea. This social security agreement is a bilateral agreement between India and another country. Which ensures continuity of social security coverage of workers posted in another country. SSA is such an agreement between two countries, which provides protection of the interests of workers across the border. This agreement ensures that workers in both the host country and the home country are treated equally in terms of social security.

This is the provision of the settlement

    • In SSA there will be equality of health treatment for IW with workers from host country.
    • International workers deputed to work in a country that has an agreement on social security with their home country. They are not required to contribute to the social security system in the host country.
    • There will be a provision for payment of pensionary benefits directly without any deduction for the beneficiary opting to stay in the home territory for the international employee as well as for the beneficiary opting to stay in a third country.
    • The service rendered in SSA country is added to the service rendered in India to determine eligibility for pension.
