Good News for BGMI Lover, BGMI may return in January 2023 with a new version

BGMI: We all know that Battlegrounds Mobile India (BGMI) was banned by the government earlier this year. Since then, the popular battle royale title has been missing from both the Google Play Store and the Apple App Store. Meanwhile, gaming lovers have come across several leaks and rumors regarding the return of the game. However, the return of the game to the country is still not confirmed as neither the government nor the developer of the game has released any official statement regarding the return date.

In a statement released last month, Crafton, the publisher and developer of BGMI, informed that BGMI is expected to return to India soon, but did not mention any specific date. Moreover, MeitY (Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology) has also not disclosed the return date for BGMI. Rumors suggest that a significant update on BGMI is expected to be made public soon, probably in January 2023.

What to expect from BGMI in India
In November, Krafton revealed the BGMI restriction status in the company’s Q3 earnings report. The statement shared by the developers also “continues its efforts to relaunch Crafton service” for BGMI in India as there are many game lovers in India and the company will continue to invest in the Indian games market.

What does the South Korean ambassador say
South Korean Ambassador Chang Jae-bok was also asked about sanctions on South Korean companies in India (BGMI was specifically mentioned) at an event in New Delhi in October. J-bok noted that India cited concerns about “cyber security breaches and violence in games” in banning the game.

He also mentioned that BGMI was previously served by Chinese company Tencent. J-bok said that India might be thinking that the game is still being monitored by a Chinese company. Therefore, South Korea is also trying to clear this confusion. Meanwhile, no government representative has commented or responded to J-bok’s statement.

In September, after an RTI appeal sought to know whether the reason for the removal of the game was related to data protection, MeitY responded with an official statement (which was also the last statement related to BGMI given by the ministry). BGMI fans shouldn’t expect any statement from the government anytime soon about the status of the ban on the game.
