Government is making a new plan. The government is planning two identical types of common ports for mobile and variable electronic devices. According to an official of the Consumer Affairs Ministry, the Indian Standard Bureau has surfaced with quality standards for the ( BIS) USB Type-C Chargin port. This decision is being taken to reduce e-waste. That is, a USB Type-C charger for mobile, smartphone and tablet and an equal charger for a variable electronic device will come.
Smartphones with no USB Type-C will not sell
Consumer Affair Sectory Rohit Kumar Singh told PTI, ‘Smphones, tablets, in the last meeting, It was agreed to adopt USB Type-C as a charging port for laptops etc. Has notified the standards for Type C charge of BIS.’
He said that IIT-Kanpur is studying single charging ports for watch such as Wearable electronic devices. This will also be discussed after the report is submitted. When asked for the common charging port, the secretary said, ‘We have to align with the European Union i.e. 2024, because mobile and electronics manufacturers have a global supply chain.’
The Ministry of Environment will assess and check the potential impact of uniform charging ports in electronic devices in relation to e-waste. Uniformity in the charging port is a step towards the LiFE ( Lifestyle for Environment ) mission initiated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in COP-26, Which calls for ‘conscious and deliberate use’ rather than conscious and futile consumption by people around the world.
