In early May, Google announced to put blue checkmarks next to the names of verified senders on Gmail to reduce the increasing scam cases. This feature has started from May 3, 2023 for all users of Google Workspace, old G Suite Basic and Business customers and users with personal Google Account. This feature has now started for some Google account users in India. The blue checkmark identifies the email as being an official or verified account. With this check mark you can identify the authenticity of the sender.

Gmail will recognize blue check mark verified account

Through this you will get to know whether the photo on the profile of the mail sender is the same or not. Apart from this, whether this profile is verified or not. Gmail messages can be verified using tools such as Brand Message Indicators for Identity (BIMI), Verified Mark Clarification (VMC), and Domain-Based Message Authentication, Reporting and Conference (DMARC).

Sender Authentication Tools

BIMI is an open standard that allows email senders to use their brand logos in emails. BIMI was introduced in Gmail in the year 2021. VMC is a digital certificate issued by a Certificate Authority, which verifies the ownership of the sender’s logo. DMARC is a standard used by email security systems to filter and separate genuine messages from spam messages. Once someone clears all these tests, Gmail lets them put a blue tick next to their name in Gmail to confirm their authenticity.
