Get ready to work 12-12 hours in factories, this state of India followed the path of China

12-Hrs Shift Law: Foxconn, a Taiwanese company that manufactures all other electronics products including iPhone for Apple, is going to set up a big plant in Karnataka soon. For this, the company will also make a big investment (Foxconn India Investment). It is being claimed that this plant (Foxconn Karnataka Plant) will generate employment opportunities on a large scale. However, in the midst of all these things, a worrying news has also come to the fore.

Now work will be done in two shifts only.

The English newspaper Financial Times has given a news regarding this by quoting sources. According to the news, under pressure from Apple and Foxconn, the Karnataka government has made some changes in the labor laws. After this change, now even in Karnataka, companies can work in two shifts instead of three in their factories. This means that instead of 9-9 hours shift in Karnataka, it will be possible to work in 12-12 hours shift like China.

Production is being removed from China

Let us tell you that Taiwanese company Foxconn is currently making iPhones for Apple in a plant located in the Chinese city of Zhengzhou. About 02 lakh people work in this iPhone plant. However, due to the disruption caused by Kovid-19, production at the Zhengzhou plant has been affected. For this reason Foxconn is looking at other options instead of China. At the same time, due to increasing tension between America and China, companies are shifting their production from China.

Foxconn will invest so much

In this sequence, Foxconn is now going to set up a 300-acre plant (Foxconn Bengaluru Plant) near Bengaluru Airport. The plant will be set up by Foxconn’s flagship unit Hon Hai Precision Industry Company, which makes iPhones for Apple. For this, the company can make a huge investment of $700 million (Foxconn India Investment). It is being claimed that about 01 lakh employment opportunities can be created from the proposed plant.

Changes made in Factories Act

According to the latest news from the Financial Times, Apple and Foxconn were lobbying to make labor laws flexible in the state. Due to this, the state government has made changes in the Factories Act. After this change, the labor law in Karnataka has now become the most flexible. However, the reactions to this change are mixed. Where on one hand some people claim that this will help in making Karnataka a manufacturing hub, while on the other hand people associated with labor organizations are calling the change anti-labour.
