Jeep Meridian is built on Fiat Chrysler Auto’s small wide 4X4 platform. Jeep also uses the same platform for the Compass and Renegade SUVs. The SUV looks similar to the Compass SUV from the front but the side and rear design is completely new. In terms of dimensions, the new Jeep Meridian is 4,769 mm long, 1,859 mm wide and 1,682 mm high, and has a wheelbase of 2,794 mm.
The new Meridian SUV is equipped with some of the most recent features. The SUV comes with the signature 7-slat grille, LED DRLs, integrated LED projector headlamps, LED fog lamps, panoramic sunroof, LED tail-log and new 18-inch diamond cut alloys. Talking about the features, it will get 10.1-inch touchscreen display with U-Connect 5, Connected Car Technology, 10.2-inch digital instrument console, wireless Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, 9-speaker high-definition surround sound system, 2nd and 3rd Automatic AC with row vents, front row ventilated and power adjustable seats are available.
In terms of safety, the new Jeep Meridian gets 360 degree camera, wireless charging, ABS with EBD, ESC (Electronic Stability Control), electronic parking brake, traction control, 6 airbags, seat belt reminder, rear parking sensors, rear camera, hill Features like start assist are available.
Coming to the engine, the Jeep Meridian is powered by a 2.0-litre 4-cylinder turbocharged diesel engine that also powers the Compass. The company has not disclosed the power and torque figures, but according to the information, this engine generates 170 bhp power and 350 newton meter torque.
Transmission options include 6-speed manual and 9-speed automatic gearbox. There are four driving modes in this SUV – Sand, Snow, Auto and Mud. Jeep Meridian’s 6-speed MT comes with a front-wheel-drive layout, while the 9-speed automatic gearbox model gets front-wheel drive as an option along with an all-wheel drive system.
Jeep India recently launched the Night Eagle trim of the Compass SUV in India. The Night Eagle trim based on the Compass SUV has been launched at a price of Rs 21.95 lakh (ex-showroom). Night Eagle has been introduced in ‘Black’ theme. Considering the strong demand in the Jeep Compass portfolio especially for the Trailhawk Edition, the company decided to launch the Compass Night Eagle trim, which now has a waiting period of around four months.
