According to Newzoo, the gaming industry saw another year of record revenue in 2021, reaching $ 180.3 billion. This represents an increase of 1.4% over the past year, aided by the isolation measures associated with the pandemic.
Earlier, Newzoo experts predicted that the market would shrink by 1.1% to $ 175.8 billion. The actual data exceeded analysts’ expectations, mainly due to the unrelenting growth of the mobile sector (+ 7.3% yoy). The PC and console markets also performed better than expected, bringing in respectively $ 0.8 billion and $ 1.2 billion more than previously estimated.
The cloud segment has also shown significant growth this year, with revenues more than doubling from last year. Newzoo predicts even more growth in the next three years.
The total number of players this year has reached 3 billion.
The market is expected to surpass $ 218.7 billion in 2024. Of these, $ 116.4 billion will come from the mobile part. Cloud gaming will grow to $ 6.5 billion and esports to $ 1.6 billion.
