Galaxy A55 beats its predecessor in the DxOMark camera ranking

Shortly after its premiere, the Samsung Galaxy A55 was tested in the DxOMark lab. Experts evaluated the capabilities of the main camera of the smartphone, and at the same time compared the novelty with the previous device of the series and gadgets of other brands.

The Samsung Galaxy A55 has a triple rear camera. It includes a 50-megapixel main sensor (f/1.8, OIS), a 12 MP ultra-wide (f/2.2, 123°) and a 5 MP macro module (f/2.4). Among the strengths of the novelty, experts attributed the accurate selection of exposure without highlights and excessively dark areas of the image, as well as the detailed texture of objects in the frame in good lighting.

When recording video, experts noted that the stabilization work well, although with a caveat – it works best when shooting on the spot, and not on the move.

It wasn’t without its drawbacks either. As soon as bright light sources appear in the frame, movement occurs, or the illumination of the entire scene decreases, halos appear around the subjects, and autofocus begins to make errors. The background blur function also did not work in the best way, which in some cases did not work correctly.

When zooming, the image quality from the rear camera was described as limited, and the ultra-wide showed a high level of digital noise in the dark areas of the frame. In addition, stabilization in video recording mode sometimes did not compensate for all of the operator’s movements.

According to the results of testing, the Galaxy A55 5G was ahead of its predecessor and slightly inferior to the Xiaomi 12 Lite 5G, placing in fifteenth place within its price category. In the DxOMark composite ranking, the smartphone took 114th place.
