Foxconn will participate in building Indonesia’s “new energy ecosystem”

Taiwanese company Foxconn said it has reached an agreement with the Indonesian Ministry of Investment and several local companies on issues related to the development and production of electric vehicles in this country.

In recent years, Foxconn, better known as Apple’s primary manufacturing partner, has expanded its business to include electric vehicles. In particular, it announced deals with young American manufacturer Fisker and Thai energy group PTT PCL.

The current MoU covers a wide range of investments in electric vehicles, including battery production. Foxconn’s partners include the Indonesian Ministry of Investment, Indonesian battery manufacturer Indonesia Battery Corporation, Indonesian energy company Indika Energy, and Taiwanese electric scooter manufacturer Gogoro.

Collaboration to create a “new energy ecosystem” in Indonesia includes the development of industries that support electric vehicles. This is the production of energy storage systems, the creation of battery replacement stations and the organization of battery recycling.

Through the partnership, an open “MIH platform” that provides both hardware and software services will be made available to companies in Indonesia. Since this is only a memorandum, details such as the amount of investments or production plans are not included in it.
