Four financial services companies including Bajaj Finance bought electoral bonds worth Rs 87 crore.

Piramal Enterprises, PHL Finvest Pvt Ltd and Piramal Capital & Housing Finance bought bonds worth Rs 60 crore during the period.

Financial services companies like Bajaj Finance, Piramal Enterprises and Edelweiss Group together bought electoral bonds worth Rs 87 crore between April 1, 2019 and January 2024.

Piramal Enterprises, PHL Finvest Pvt Ltd and Piramal Capital & Housing Finance bought bonds worth Rs 60 crore during the period.

Following this, three Edelweiss group entities bought bonds worth Rs 4 crore, while Bajaj Finance bought bonds worth Rs 20 crore, according to details published by the Election Commission on Thursday evening.

Muthoot Finance, a gold lending company, purchased electoral bonds worth Rs 3 crore during this period. However, the names of the recipient political parties were not disclosed. When contacted, these companies have not yet responded.

As per the Supreme Court’s direction, State Bank of India (SBI) on Tuesday evening submitted to the Election Commission details of the entities that had purchased the now expired electoral bonds and the political parties that had received them. SBI has issued electoral bonds worth Rs 16,518 crore in 30 tranches since the launch of the scheme in 2018.
