Along with this, the company said that this data of users has been leaked through third party apps. It has also advised its users to change the password immediately.
According to Meta on the matter, more than 400 such apps were identified last year that were stealing passwords and account information of Facebook users. These include photo editors, cameras, VPN services, horoscopes, and fitness tracking apps. These apps were actually getting users to login through Facebook accounts. After that they were taking all kinds of access. Their purpose was to steal its data by login with Facebook account.
However, Meta official David Agranovich said that these apps used to login through Facebook account but did not work after login. In such a situation, the first thing to do in any kind of data leak is to logout your account from all the devices and change your password immediately. Do not use your e-mail ID other than name and mobile number in the password.
