Exploring space without a telescope: the first release version of the Stellarium cross-platform planetarium has been released

The first release version of the free virtual planetarium Stellarium 1.0 has been released. This program has been in development for over 20 years, but has just received a release update.

The application includes data on more than 600,000 stars and 80,000 space objects. You can also download additional catalogs, then the list will cover more than 177 million stars and more than a million deep sky objects. The program is available for Linux, Windows and macOS, for mobile OS and even in browser.

What’s new in version 1.0 is that it now supports an improved lighting model, can work with high resolution displays, and the eclipse simulation is now more detailed. In addition, the program now works correctly with the location system in Windows, and can automatically show the view of the starry sky from the point where the user is.

All versions can be downloaded here.
