The Punjab government has stopped mobile internet services in Patiala district of the state. SMS service has also been discontinued in mobile services. Only voice call service has been continued. During the Anti-Khalistan march on Saturday, two groups clashed, creating an atmosphere of tension in the district. 4 people got injured in this fight. Mobile internet services have been suspended in the district in view of this tension in Patiala not catching more wind. However, voice call facility for communication will continue.
The order to stop mobile internet services has been issued by the Department of Home Affairs and Justice. Heavy police force has been deployed at the encounter site. This place is said to be near the Kali Mata temple in Patiala, where several people were injured in an encounter between two groups.
The order said, “In exercise of the power conferred on me by virtue of the temporary suspension of the Telecom Services (Public Emergency or Public Safety) Rules, 2017, I, Anurag Verma, Principal Secretary, Home Affairs and Justice, hereby refer to Mobile Internet Services (2G/3G/45/CDMA), order suspension of all SMS services and all dongle services, except voice calls, which are made available on mobile networks, from 9:30 am to 6 pm on 30th April “
Four people have been reported injured in the encounter. Stone pelting also took place between the two groups, due to which many people also suffered minor injuries. The police had to fire in the air to bring the situation under control. The police is said to be scanning the CCTV footage to identify those responsible for starting the tussle. After thorough investigation, action will be taken against the accused. At present, the situation in Patiala district is said to be under control.
