Elon Musk’s backing of the Republican Party raises questions about Twitter being neutral

Controversy has erupted over the use of Twitter of the world’s richest man, Elon Musk, to promote the Republican party in America. Musk recently bought Twitter for about $44 billion. He has urged voters to vote for the Republican Party on Twitter for America’s midterm elections.

Senior executives of tech companies stay away from political debate so that their companies are not accused of favoring a particular political party. Musk has been stating his political views even before this. However, this time his direct support to a party did not help. Twitter Questions are being raised about its ability to remain impartial. As the Associated Press reported, Musk tweeted, “As the President is Democratic, I recommend voting for the Republican Party.” Musk has previously made remarks against the US government. Musk, the chief executive of electric car maker Tesla, said that the US government does not like his company.

Jennifer Stromer-Galley, a professor at Syracuse University who studies social media and politics, said: “These social media platforms are not just companies. It’s not just a business. It’s also our digital public space. It looks like this. It is being privatized. When the chiefs of these companies point towards a particular aspect, it can harm our democracy.”

After Musk took over Twitter, the company grew big. shift has started. He has laid off a large number of staff in the company. Twitter has released an update to its iOS app, along with a few changes to the new Twitter Blue subscription. Musk has been promoting this subscription through his tweets. Twitter Blue subscribers will automatically get a blue checkmark on their profiles, which was earlier given only to verified accounts of corporates, celebrities and celebrities. Twitter users will have to pay $7.99 per month in the US for Blue Tick. Musk has indicated that its charge will be determined by the parachuting power of people in other countries.
