Elon Musk’s attitude softens, Twitter accounts of journalists restored

Elon Musk, chief executive of the microblogging site Twitter, has restored the Twitter accounts of journalists who were suspended last week for reporting on Musk. Musk had conducted a poll on Twitter to restore the accounts of journalists, in which most of the users voted in favor of restoring these accounts.

Twitter did not respond to a query sent by Reuters about this. United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Turk told journalists Twitter Account recovery is welcome. However, with this, Volker said that his apprehensions remained intact. “Twitter has a responsibility to respect human rights. Elon Musk must commit to making decisions based on publicly available policies. This includes free speech,” he said.

The United Nations and the European Union (EU) had also objected to the blocking of journalists on Twitter. Twitter last week Policy In addition to sharing the location of a person during humanitarian efforts or public events, accounts or tweets doing so will be removed. UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres expressed concern over the suspension of journalists from Twitter, calling it a dangerous precedent. The EU warned of sanctions on Twitter.

The EU had said that restrictions could be imposed on Twitter in the upcoming media law. EU Commissioner Vera Jourova tweeted, “The unilateral suspension of journalists on Twitter is worrying. Media freedom and fundamental rights are required to be respected in the EU’s Digital Services Act. This is reflected in our Media Freedom Act.” It is repeated. Elon Musk should be aware of this. Violation of this may lead to sanctions soon. Twitter had banned the accounts of many such journalists who used to give reports related to Musk. These included journalists from the Washington Post, the New York Times, Mashable, CNN and Substack. The tweets of these journalists were also deleted.
