Electricity charges will increase by 60-70 paise per unit: Union Minister RK Singh
Union Power Minister RK Singh said that to avoid blackout, power plants have been asked to mix 10 per cent imported coal. This will increase the electricity duty by 60-70 paise per unit. RK Singh said that this has to be done to avoid power shortage as domestic coal supply is not able to meet the demand of power companies.
25 percent increase in electricity consumption
The Power Minister said that the consumption of energy has increased by about 25 percent and the maximum demand has also increased by 15 percent in the last one year. So he said, “We have asked power plants to blend 10 per cent imported coal to avoid blackout as domestic coal production is not enough.”
RK Singh said, “The price of imported coal is Rs 17,000-18,000 per tonne while that of domestic coal is around Rs 2,000 per tonne. Due to this, electricity duty will increase by about 60-70 paise per unit.”
