Up to 25 percent subsidy will be available on e-vehicles

Under the Ladakh Electric Vehicle Policy, 10 percent subsidy of the cost of the vehicle will be given to the customers buying two-wheeler, three-wheeler and four-wheeler electric vehicles in the state. At the same time, a subsidy of 25 percent will be given on the purchase of heavy vehicles like electric buses and trucks.

To promote electric vehicles, the administration has decided to exempt electric vehicles from road tax. To expand the charging infrastructure, the administration has offered to subsidize commercial public electric vehicle charging stations for two-wheelers, cars and buses.

According to the information, under this policy, the first 15 electric vehicle charging stations will be given 25 percent capital subsidy on equipment/machinery or Rs 5 lakh per station capital subsidy (whichever is less). Electricity charges will be charged from commercial EV charging stations at domestic rates.

There are currently more than 14 lakh electric vehicles registered in India. Their number is expected to rise to 35-40 lakh by December 2022. At the same pace, this number can reach 30 million in the next two years.

The sale of electric vehicles in the country has tripled. If we look at the data, the total electric vehicle sales in the financial year 2021-22 were 4,29,217 units, as compared to 1,34,821 units during the financial year 2020-21.
