Tiago EV: Tata Motors recently announced that the company’s next electric offering for the Indian market will be the Tiago EV. Now, the domestic automaker has officially confirmed that the all-new Tata Tiago EV will make its global debut in India on September 28, 2022. Once launched, it could be the cheapest electric car sold in the country. Actually, Tata Tiago is the company’s entry level ICE hatchback and so can its electric version.
The Tata Tiago EV will be India’s first electric hatchback and will be below the Tigor EV in the company’s portfolio. However, Tata Motors is yet to reveal the specifications or other details of the Tiago EV. However, the Tiago EV is believed to share the underpinnings and mechanicals with the company’s electric sedan, the Tigor EV. The Tigor EV was launched in India last year for the PV segment.
Talking about the specifications, the Tigor EV gets Tata’s advanced Ziptron technology, which uses a permanent magnet synchronous electric motor. This powertrain generates 74 Bhp and 170 Nm of peak torque. The company claims that it can accelerate from 0 to 60 kmph in 5.7 seconds. In addition, it gets a 26 kWh lithium-ion battery pack, which gives an ARAI-certified range of 302 km per charge.
The upcoming new Tata Tiago EV is also expected to get the same powertrain. Also, the motor, power and torque of the motor, battery pack and range could be similar to the Tigor EV. Let us know that the Tigor EV has got a 4-star safety rating in the Global NCAP crash test and the Tiago EV is also expected to be quite safe.
In terms of pricing, the Tata Tiago EV could be priced close to Rs 10 lakh, ex-showroom, making it the cheapest electric car in India.
