Electric car sales up over 224 percent in August

Electric car sales are increasing in the country. In August, Tata Motors topped the segment in terms of sales. Mahindra & Mahindra has tried to increase its presence in electric cars but with little success. The total sales of this segment stood at 3,237 units in August. This is an increase of over 224 per cent over the same period last year.

The company’s Electric Vehicles (EV) range comprises three models and it is preparing to launch a new electric model next year. Tata Motors had 575 units of EV sales in the same period last year. The company has grown over 377 percent in sales on a year-on-year basis.

Tata Motors had a market share of 93.17 per cent in this segment in July and fell to a little over 84 per cent in August. MG was in second place. It sold 69 units in August. It has 9.61 percent market share. However, the company’s sales have decreased as compared to the same period last year. It sold 377 units in the same month last year and this year its sales declined to 311 units. Sales have increased significantly with Hyundai’s Kona EV. The company’s August sales stood at 69 units, as against only 12 units in the same month last year.

Mahindra & Mahindra’s eVerito sales stood at 17 units. This is an increase of only one unit from the same month last year. The company’s new XUV400 is similar to the electric variant of the subcompact SUV but some changes have been made in its design. Electric vehicles do not require a normal grille and hence the XUV400 gets a different type of grille. It gets LED headlight and daytime lights, which are borrowed from the XUV300. to the company SUV With this, its sales in the segment of electric vehicles are expected to increase. Automobile companies are planning to launch new models in this segment in the coming months.
