BEST officials had told PTI that the makers of the buses would first unveil them on Thursday morning at a function near Mantralaya in south Mumbai and then hand them over to BEST Enterprises. Pictures and videos of black and red double decker bus and blue color single decker bus have gone viral on social media.

According to the report, BEST has awarded a contract to a private company to supply 900 electric buses in phases. Of these, 50 per cent buses are expected to arrive by March 2023 and the remaining 50 per cent after that. This total order price 3675 crores, which is the largest ever order in the history of Indian Electric Mobility. Olectra has also taken up the repair of these buses during the contract period. These buses can run for about 200 km on a single charge. In addition, the public transport service provider in Mumbai plans to launch premium app-based public transport in the city.

Officials said that passengers will have to book their seats through the mobile application and they may have to pay higher fares for this premium service as compared to conventional buses.

Apart from this, let us tell you that recently the news agency ANI had told that the Delhi government has started 150 electric buses for the residents of Delhi. Delhi currently has two e-bus depots for maintenance of these buses, Mundela Kalan and Rohini Sector 37. Delhi Transport Corporation’s first electric bus was launched in January. The Chief Minister of Delhi had said that 300 such electric buses would soon be included in public transport in the city. At present, more emphasis is being laid on the manufacture and use of electric vehicles in the country, which is both better for the environment and saving money.
