Driving in Delhi without valid PUC certificate, so now you have to pay Rs 10,000 challan

According to the information, 2,000 such vehicles have been informed through notices. According to the Delhi Transport Department, preparations are being made to impose a fine of Rs 10,000 on those who do not get the PUC made even after the notice.

While old vehicles are required to get PUC done every two to three months, new BS-IV vehicles are required to get PUC done only once in a year. According to official figures, PUC of 10 to 15 thousand vehicles are done every day. However, the number of vehicles in Delhi without valid PUC is more than 15 lakh and most of them are two wheelers.

According to the department, the drivers were informed for PUC renewal through SMS in the last week of July. Vehicles that have not had PUC for a long time have been served notices first, while vehicles whose PUC is nearing expiration will be served notices later.

The Delhi Transport Department says that the notice is being sent so that vehicles without PUC certificate can be confiscated as soon as they are seen on the road. As per the Motor Vehicles Act, the vehicle cannot be driven on the road after the PUC certificate has expired. If the transport department informs for PUC through notice in advance and it does not respond within seven days, then the department can impose fine on the vehicle owner as per the rules.

The Transport Department is giving information about the challan through e-notice and SMS, which is sent through the challan mobile application. This application has been developed by National Informatics Center. If the vehicle owner does not get a valid PUC made, then there can be a fine of Rs 10,000 or imprisonment for three months. There is also a provision for cancellation of driving license of such drivers.

In view of rising pollution levels in the national capital, the NGT has banned the plying of diesel vehicles older than 10 years and petrol vehicles older than 15 years in Delhi-NCR. Presently NOC is not being given in Delhi to diesel vehicles which are more than 10 years old and petrol vehicles which are more than 15 years old but the government is giving NOC to ply them in other states where such vehicles are not banned.

The Delhi government is also giving approval to install electric kits in old vehicles running on petrol and diesel. Allowing retrofitment of electric kits for petrol and diesel vehicles will help promote electric and zero-emission vehicles in the national capital.
