Don’t update! The latest UX plugin update kills Xiaomi, POCO and Redmi smartphones

Today, February 29, a huge number of messages from owners of Xiaomi, POCO and Redmi smartphones about unexpected “bricking” began to appear on our forum. Gadgets reboot into recovery on their own without the ability to log into the system.

The problem is observed on a huge number of devices, including Redmi, POCO and Xiaomi – we found messages from affected users on many  profile threads on the forum . Apparently, the incident is extremely large-scale and covers a large number of models.

According to preliminary information, the problem with the bootlap was caused by an update to the system user interface plugin. In particular, users who had auto-update enabled in the GetApps app store were affected.

At the time of writing the news, there is only one effective method to “revive” smartphones – a full reset to factory settings (wipe data in recovery). It is important that this entails the loss of all data. There have been no official comments from Xiaomi yet.

All owners of Xiaomi devices are strongly recommended to disable system auto-updates and not install any updates until there is additional information.

UPD:  Owners of smartphones for which an update to HyperOS is available can try to restore the firmware using this method .

UPD #2:  A response from the support service appeared in the official Xiaomi.Russia group:
