Signing the MoU, Jasmin Shah, Vice-Chairman, Delhi Development and Dialogue Commission (DDC), said, “Electric Vehicle Mechanic Training Program is the first in the series of short and long term courses to be launched by the Delhi Government to become an electric vehicle. This program will lay the foundation of thousands of jobs in the electric vehicles sector in Delhi.”

DESU hopes that this training program will address two major challenges for the Delhi government including creating skilled and trained workforce besides achieving Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s vision of making Delhi the Electric Vehicle Capital of India. In August 2020, the Delhi government launched its Electric Vehicle Policy.

Under this policy, a maximum subsidy of Rs 30,000 is being given on the purchase of electric two-wheelers, autorickshaws and e-rickshaws in Delhi, while a subsidy of up to Rs 1.5 lakh can be availed on the purchase of an electric car. Apart from this, electric vehicles have been completely exempted from registration fee. Electric vehicles account for 18.6 percent of the total registered vehicles in Delhi. According to the latest data of Vahan Portal, there are more than 1.60 lakh e-vehicles registered in Delhi.

The Delhi government has recently updated the database of charging stations on the Switch Delhi portal. This will enable e-drivers to get information about the charging points and battery swap stations in the city on their mobile phones or smart devices.
