Western sanctions against Russia sometimes work in unexpected ways. As it turned out, on April 25, the Yandex data center in the city of Mäntsälä (Finland) was disconnected from the main power source. This was reported by RBC with reference to a source close to the company. The electricity supplier is the local company Nivos Energia Oy.
Earlier, the company’s president, Marco Ali, said that if Yandex is included in the sanctions lists, the company will cease cooperation with Yandex Oy, a legal entity registered in Finland. As it turned out, since then and to the present moment, the data center has been operating from a backup power source – a diesel generator.
“The data center in Finland continues to operate. All of our services are operating normally. Now we are in the process of renewing the contract with the energy supplier, temporarily the data center is running on its own diesel generators.”– told TASS in the press service of “Yandex”.
