Cyber Crime: Russian hackers breached Microsoft’s system, accused of gaining access to the company’s leadership team

Microsoft has revealed that its corporate systems were breached via email by a Russian government-sponsored hacking group. It is known as Nobelium or Midnight Blizzard. The hackers also accessed the accounts of members of the company’s leadership team, as well as employees of its cybersecurity and legal teams.

In a blog post, Microsoft said the intrusion began in late November last year and was discovered on January 12. However, very little access was made to Microsoft’s corporate accounts and some emails and attached documents were stolen.

However, the company did not say whose or how many email accounts were breached. The company’s threat research team identified the system breach and took action to mitigate the threat. By blocking these activities, Microsoft blocked hackers’ access to the system.
