Created ink for tattoos on the colon This is for medical purposes.

Scientists have developed an improved ink for endoscopic tattooing – this is done on the colon and serves as a marker for subsequent surgical intervention.

The new ink scatters less and is more biocompatible than existing inks. In addition, some drugs can cause inflammation or penetrate other tissues.

New paints can mark complex polyps and tumors in the colon. With tattoos, it will be easier for doctors to find the affected areas and remove them surgically. “These are usually very flat, thin lesions, and they need to be marked so that the specialist can find them on re-examination,” explained Rahul Pannala, MD, gastroenterologist.

The ink was made dark blue. To create them, scientists used nanoparticles derived from metals and combined them with polymers that adhere to the submucosal surface of the colon. The novelty has already been tested on animals.
