The 45 -day ‘Mahakumbh’ has ended in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh. A new report was released by the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) regarding the purity of Ganga-Yamuna water in the confluence area. In the new report submitted to the National Green Tribunal (NGT), the CPCB said that the water of Ganga and Yamuna river was worth bathing during Mahakumbh.

Information about water cleaning in the report

The new CPCB report stated that samples taken on different days to check the water were showing different results. To measure the quality of water, the pH, biochemical oxygen demand (BOD), the amount of oxygen dissolved in the water and the amount of bacteria present in the dirt were seen. During this time it was found that there was a change in the quantity of these things at different days and different places. Therefore, the quality of water was not normal everywhere.

According to the report, during the Mahakumbh Mela, water was checked 20 times at 10 places from 12 January to 22 February. During this period, the amount of fecal coaliform bacteria was 1400, which was under the standards. According to CPCB, 100 ml of water for bathing is 2500 MPN safe level. The amount of oxygen dissolved in the water was 8.7, which should be more than 5. The amount of dirt in the water was 2.56, which should be less than 3.

On February 17, CPCB submitted a report to the NGT. In which it was told that the Ganges-Yamuna water has many times more feeled coliform bacteria than the standard fixed. During the Mahakumbh, crores of people bathed in crores, which increased the bacteria of dirt in the water. The new report released by CPCB will now be heard on 7 April.

Please tell that the government of Yogi Adityanath of UP also rejected the CPCB report. On February 19, CM Yogi dismissed the report in the assembly and said that the water of Triveni Sangam is not only worth bathing, but also potable.
