The Government has launched Operation Kaveri to save the Indians trapped in the civil war of Sudan . Under this , a C-130J heavy-lift aircraft of the Indian Air Force rescued 121 people from Sudan on the night of 27-28 April . In this historic operation, a heavy-lift aircraft of the Air Force landed on a small airstrip in Wadi Sayyidna, that too without landing lights.
Let us tell you that to do this historic feat, the pilots used Night Vision Goggles (NVG) for landing at night. So that they can know the exact place of landing. In this operation, 121 people were rescued from Sudan. Please tell that this airstrip is about 40 km north of Khartoum, the capital of violence-affected Sudan.
Use of Night Vision Goggles
The Air Force reported that while proceeding towards the airstrip, the crew used their electro-optical/infra-red sensors to determine that the runway was clear. After seeing this, the aircrew used night vision goggles in the dark night.
Historical feat of Indian Air Force
Please tell that a pregnant woman was also among the 121 people saved in Operation Kaveri. Even after landing, the aircraft’s engines continued to run while eight IAF Garuda commandos helped to keep the passengers and their luggage on board. The IAF said that this operation of about two and a half hours between Wadi Sayyidna and Jeddah will be known for its historic feats in the history of the Indian Air Force. As was done in Kabul.
India started ‘Operation Kaveri’
The Indian Air Force had carried out similar operations in August 2021 to evacuate Indians from Kabul after the Taliban seized power in Afghanistan. At the same time, India started ‘Operation Kaveri’ earlier this week to bring back the stranded Indians from Sudan.
