The new Changan Shenlan SL03 electric sedan with extended range will be launched in the second half of the year. It is a compact sedan based on the Changan EPA1 pure electric platform.
The original model was released in China on July 25, 2022 with three powertrains. Shenlan is a joint venture between CATL, Changan New Energy and Huawei. SL03 competitors are BYD Seal, Tesla Model 3 and XPeng P7. In April this year, 7,756 SL03 units were delivered. The total volume of deliveries exceeded 50,000 units.
The new Changan Shenlan SL03 EV model will be equipped with a triple 66.8kWh lithium battery pack provided by China Innovation Aviation Technology Group Co., Ltd, providing a pure electric range of 610 km.
The new model Changan Shenlan SL03 EREV will be equipped with a lithium iron phosphate battery with a capacity of 18.99 kWh and a new type of engine, which will reduce the pure electric range to 100 km. The new EREV is expected to be the entry-level SL03 model in the future. For reference, the current SL03 EREV is equipped with a 28.39 kWh battery and a pure electric range of 200 km.
According to the official website, the starting price of the current Shenlan SL03 after subsidies is only $21,500. The estimated price of the new entry-level model is expected to be even lower, around $20,100.
The new SL03 EREV will continue to be powered by a 1.5-liter naturally aspirated engine (JL473QJ) with 95 hp. and electric motor (XTDM66). In addition, the new car will be adorned with chrome trim strips and equipped with front and rear radars.
