CNG Car Sales 2021: Know which car won, which company caught

Tata Motors shipped just 206 units to dealerships in the month of December 2021, though the company had revealed in its January sales figures that they sold over 3000 CNG cars in that month. The total sales of CNG cars has reached an all-time high of 7.1% as against 4.6% in 2020. Sales of factory fitted CNG cars have been great for both Maruti and Hyundai.

Last 78,122 units of Maruti WagonR CNG model have been sold which is 42% of the total sales of 183,850 of this model. On the other hand, Ertiga MPV has been at number two, with 51,076 units of CNG model sold last year which is 45% of the total sales of this model of 114,408. With the discontinuation of diesel, the customers of this MPV are very fond of CNG, due to which it has been ranked second.

This is followed by Maruti’s Eeco, which sold 25,878 units of CNG model last year, which is 23% of the total sales of this model of 114,524. It is followed by Hyundai’s Aura which has sold 19,127 units of CNG model last year which is 51% of the total sales of 37,584 of this model. Even though it is available in diesel, its CNG is getting better response than petrol and diesel.

Another Hyundai model i10 Grand has made its place in the top 5, which sold 14,326 units of CNG model last year which is 15% of the total sales of this model of 95,515. It is followed by Maruti Dzire, which sold 14,196 units of CNG model last year which is 12% of the total sales of this model of 116,222. However, the DZire is not getting the same benefits as CNG and there is a shortage of diesel.

This is followed by Maruti’s Celerio, which sold 6679 units of CNG model last year, which is 20% of the total sales of this model 32,853. After that the company’s entry level model Alto has made its place, which sold 6529 units of CNG model last year which is 4% of the total sales of this model 166,233. Sales from CNG have been the lowest on this list.

This is followed by another entry level model S-Presso, which sold 4926 units of CNG model last year which is 8% of the total sales of this model 65,478. After that finally Hyundai’s entry level model has been Santro which has sold 4131 units of CNG model last year which is 17% of the total sales of this model 24,142.

Customers are turning to CNG cars due to the rising prices of petrol and diesel in the country and electric cars being out of reach, due to which their sales have been maximum last year. However, according to the CNG response in the month of January, the sales of CNG cars are going to increase rapidly this year.
