New Delhi. You all must be aware of two big apps like Battlegrounds Mobile India (BGMI) and VLC Media Player, which were banned by the Indian government. The government has adopted a proactive vision to find apps on the Google Play Store and App Store that may be related to the Chinese government and share the database of Indian users with China. A total of 321 apps were banned between 2020 and February 2022. Let us know about the biggest apps in India, which were banned.
BGMI is probably the most popular after PUBG and Garena Free Fire. The first two became part of a massive app ban, but BGMI was banned separately. The ban for the online multiplayer battle royale game came as a major setback, as after Tencent brought the PUBG ban, Crafton took control of the BMI project and developed an app for India that passed a check by the government. But just a few days after the completion of its year, the BGMI app has been banned from both the Play Store and the App Store.
VLC Media Player
Perhaps even more surprising was the removal of VLC Media Player, as it was removed from the website several months before many people knew. It was revealed on 13 August after the official Twitter account posted about it saying “If you are in India, please help us”. There is not much official information about why VLC was banned in India.
AliExpress was banned in India due to China link. It was an app to provide cheap Chinese goods to Indian users. Interestingly, AliExpress did not sell to customers in mainland China, although most of its customers are retail seller China. The app was banned in November 2020.
The UC Browser app was the most popular among those banned. The app was popular for being customized for mobile devices. Came with an inbuilt ads blocker. It was one of the first apps to be banned in 2020
WeChat is one of the most popular messaging apps. However, WeChat did not have many users given the popularity of WhatsApp and Telegram. WeChat was still popular because of its name. Many users used it on a large scale. Along with PUBG and UC Browser, it was also blocked in India after the first wave of app bans.
