What is Chhattisgarh EV Policy 2022?

The government of Chhattisgarh has brought this policy to increase the use of electric vehicles in the state and develop the state as a production hub of EVs. Under this, exemption will be given on registration fee and road tax to promote electric vehicle purchase. Along with this, EV charging stations will also be set up on national and state highways.

The state government is targeting to purchase 4 lakh electric vehicles for the next 5 years, which is about 15%. Electric vehicles should account for 15% of the new ones purchased in the state in the next five years, whether for private use or commercial. Under this policy, both commercial and non-commercial vehicles will be promoted.

The state government has announced that during this policy, exemption from registration tax will be given on the purchase of EV. Apart from this, there will be complete exemption on road tax for EVs in the first two years of this policy. After this, for the next two years, this exemption will be reduced to 50% and then for the next one year this exemption will be further reduced to 25%.

At the same time, 25% subsidy of the cost of setting up machinery and plant will be given to develop the state as a production hub of EVs. Also, the government will allot 500-1000 acres of land to develop an EV park to woo EV manufacturers.

The state government is going to give a grant of 25% on the charging equipment/machinery of the first 300 fast charging stations to select energy operators up to a maximum of Rs 10 lakh per station. At the same time, the government has also made a provision for exemption in state GST for EV manufacturers under this policy. Government Energy Operators will get State GST exemption on the purchase of batteries used for switching/swapping stations.

Along with this, exemption in state GST will be given on the sale of electric buses and sale of electric goods vehicles. The state government is going to install charging stations in government and private buildings.

Amidst the rising prices of petrol and diesel in the country, now the EV policy has been introduced in Chhattisgarh as well.

Chhattisgarh has also now joined the select states of the country where EV policy has been introduced. Although the government has put more emphasis on making the state an EV production hub, there is no exemption for private customers except registration fee and road tax.
