Charge an electric car by simply moving along the road. Japan wants to introduce such technology as early as 2025

Japan has begun testing a technology that will allow electric vehicles to charge directly from the road.

Japanese construction group Obayashi and auto parts supplier Denso have begun testing a road surface designed to power electric vehicles while driving. Moreover, the companies have already set themselves the goal of introducing the corresponding technology in 2025.

In the research center, the companies managed to ensure that the car almost continuously moved along the road with the embedded charging coils at a speed of about 15 km / h. True, there are no details, so it is not clear whether this was a serial retrofitted machine or some kind of specially built unit.

The technology could initially be used to power driverless buses. Such vehicles are currently not widely used and usually move along fairly short and local routes, which will allow additional testing of the technology.

At the same time, experts admit that the placement of coils inside the roadway will significantly affect the energy efficiency of such a solution, so it is not a fact that it can be made widespread and accessible to everyone.
