PVs Sales In April 2023: Last month (April), there has been a one percent decline in the retail sales of passenger vehicles (PVs) in the country. The major reason for this is the stricter emission norms implemented from April 1 due to which buyers preferred to buy vehicles in March. Federation of Vehicle Dealer Associations (FADA) has given this information. According to this, retail sales of passenger vehicles in April 2023 stood at 2,82,674 units while in April 2022 it was 2,86,539 units.
Why the retail sales of passenger vehicles decreased?
Sales of two-wheelers
At the same time, the registration of two-wheelers in April decreased by 7% to 12,29,911 units as compared to 13,26,773 units in the same period a year ago (April 2022). Singhania attributed the drop in sales to the migration to OBD 2A, unseasonal rains and customer preference for purchases in March. Singhania said that sales in rural areas have not improved yet. Two-wheeler sales are still (April 2023) down by 19 percent as compared to the pre-Covid April 2019 period.
Retail sales of three wheelers
It was told by FADA that retail sales of three wheelers last month (April 2023) stood at 70,928 units, which is 57% higher than 45,114 units in April 2022. Similarly, registration of commercial vehicles increased by two per cent to 85,587 units in April from 83,987 units in the year-ago period (April 2022).
