In June, sales in the Chinese passenger car market reached 1.944 million units, up 22.7% from last June. At the same time, compared with May, when 1.354 million units were sold, sales increased by 43.5%.
New energy light vehicle sales reached 531,000 units, up 130.5% year on year. In May, sales were 360,000 units, a 47.8% increase in sales.
BYD ranked first in new energy vehicle sales with 132,553 vehicles, up 228.8% year-on-year. The second place is occupied by Tesla, which sold 77.9 thousand cars, which is 177% more than in June last year.
Previously reportedthat BYD, which last spring completely abandoned the production of cars with internal combustion engines, sold more than 641 thousand electric vehicles in the world in the first half of 2022. This allowed it to overtake Tesla and become the world leader in sales of electric vehicles in the first six months.
SAIC-GM-Wuling came in third with over 40,000 vehicles. The well-known companies Geely Automobile, GAC Aian, Chery Automobile and Changan Automobile follow, which took 4th, 5th, 6th and 8th places respectively.
Emerging automakers such as Xiaopeng Automobile, Nezha Automobile, Lili Automobile, Weilai Automobile and Leapmotor performed well, with Great Wall Motors only finishing in 12th place.
In addition, the list includes FAW-Volkswagen and SAIC Volkswagen. These joint car companies have recently begun to enter the market for new energy vehicles, which deserves attention.
