BS6 Phase 2 Emission Norms: New parts are being installed in bikes and cars which are increasing the development cost. In such a situation, the cost of these vehicles will increase further.
BS6 Phase 2 emission norms have been implemented in India from 1st April. For this, parts are being installed in bikes and cars which increases the development cost, thus increasing the cost of these vehicles.
BS6 second phase of normals Corporate Average Fuel Economy in (CAFE 2) and real driving emissions (rde) rules are included. They measure the emission levels of the four wheelers in test as well as real world conditions. Meanwhile, the on-board diagnostics OBD 2 norm is now valid for two-wheelers.
These new components are being introduced
The BS6 Phase 2 norms mandate that the new vehicle must pack a self-diagnostic. It monitors the level of emission while driving and warns the driver when the emission exceeds the prescribed pacemeters. There are also programmed fuel injectors which help in reducing the amount of fuel burnt while driving under control.
R&D cost will be borne by the customers
The auto industry is already facing a shortage of semiconductors. At such a time, the cost for OEMs to install high quality semi conductors in the vehicle will be increased. A lot of money needs to be spent on research and assembly line for self diagnostic devices which are finally delivered to the customers. In such a situation, you can see that the vehicles are getting costlier continuously.
Many brands increased prices this month
Hyundai cars have now become costlier by up to Rs 12,600, while Volkswagen has increased prices by up to Rs 70,900, post the introduction of BS6 Phase 2 emission norms. Mercedes Benz vehicles have now become expensive by Rs 1.50. Finally, cars from Maruti Suzuki, Kia and Tata Motors are costlier by 0.8 per cent, 3 per cent and 5 per cent respectively.
