The New York Times reports that the New York City Fire Department (FDNY) has purchased two Boston Dynamics robots for $75,000 and plans to use them in places where it’s harder for people to turn around.
The FDNY wants to use the “dogs” in complex search and rescue missions, where they can help relay critical situational data to rescuers.
However, after only a few months of Digidog’s operation, public backlash led the NYPD to return the mechanical dog to Boston Dynamics.
