Air India has the largest number of Boeing aircraft in India.

India is now becoming the world’s first choice for the manufacturing sector. Even in the research and development sector, companies around the world are giving importance to Indian talent. Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government has attracted companies from all over the world to invest in India by bringing many schemes like ‘Make in India’ and ‘PLI Scheme’. Now Boeing, one of the world’s largest aircraft companies, is also investing in India. PM Modi is going to inaugurate a center of the company which is going to be built in India on January 19.

Boeing is going to make its biggest investment so far outside America in India. The company will set up an engineering center in Bengaluru which is going to be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Boeing is a multinational corporation. Its headquarters is in Chicago. The company has about 153,000 employees worldwide.

Engineering center will be built for Rs 1600 crore

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate Boeing’s new state-of-the-art Global Engineering and Technology Center (BIETC) on January 19. This complex is in Devanahalli on the outskirts of Bengaluru near Kempegowda International Airport. Boeing is also going to start a program to increase the participation of women in the Indian aviation sector. PM Modi will start this also. The company is going to invest Rs 1600 crore on this campus. This campus will be spread over approximately 43 acres.

Last year, Boeing had announced an investment of $100 million on infrastructure and other programs to train pilots in India. After this, Air India signed a deal with Boeing to buy more than 200 jets. These included 787 Dreamliner, 777X, 737 Max narrowbody aircraft.

One of the largest aircraft companies in the world

Boeing is the world’s largest aerospace company. The status of Boeing can be understood from the fact that it has 10,000 commercial aircraft in operation across the world. Maximum 39 percent of Boeing’s income comes from defence, space and security. Whereas the company earns up to 32 percent from commercial planes. This company designs, manufactures and sells airplanes, aircraft, rockets, satellites, telecommunication equipment and missiles. That is, an international company that specializes in making everything from deadly fighter jets to commercial planes.

Ruling the world for 107 years

Boeing started about 107 years ago. When the Wright Brothers flew for the first time in 1903, American businessman William E. Boeing had the idea of starting a company to manufacture planes. In 1916 he formed a company named Aero Products. About a year later, its name was changed to Boeing Airplane Company.

A year later, in 1917, the company designed its first aircraft, but it was far behind in terms of technology compared to the aircraft of that era. This was the period when the world war had started. Planes were needed for the war. During this period the company received 50 orders for manufacturing aircraft. This was the biggest turning point for the company.

After the experience of this order, the company planned expansion. After World War I, Boeing started making commercial aircraft. Boeing continued to expand over time. The company has taken over 32 companies so far.

Interesting story of naming of Boeing aircraft

The story of naming the numbers of Boeing aircraft is also interesting. In the initial period, the company used to number the aircraft according to the sequence, but after 1945, when a name was thought of for the first commercial jet, it was named Model 700. The marketing team did not like this name and named it Model-707. In this way the names of Boeing aircraft started starting with 7 and ending with 7. With this came the concept of ‘7-7’ for the name.

Boeing has also gone through bad times

With time, Boeing kept climbing the stairs of success, but controversies also kept adding to it. Many Boeing aircraft became the cause of accidents in the world. This raised questions on the credibility of the company, but the company tried to get rid of the controversies by saying that the shortcomings would be removed.

Boeing’s 737 Max model remained the most controversial. 346 people died in plane crashes in Indonesia in 2018 and Ethiopia in 2019. After these incidents, 737 Max aircraft could not fly for about 20 months. This aircraft remained in discussion all over the world. After this the company made changes in the software of its flight control system. As a result, flights of this model started again in 2021.

Aircraft of French company Airbus are mostly used in India. A dozen airlines of the country have 478 Airbus, followed by Boeing with 135 aircraft. After the recent deal of Air India, the number of Boeing aircraft is going to increase.

Some of the military aircraft/helicopters manufactured by Boeing are:

  • C-17 Globemaster III
  • CH/MH-47 Chinook
  • V-22 Osprey
  • AH-6 Light Attack Helicopter
  • AH-64D Apache
  • F/A-18E/F Super Hornet Navy fighter aircraft
  • F-15E Strike Eagle tactical fighter
  • Boeing Vertol CH-46 Sea Knight (Vertol Aircraft Corp.)
  • Boeing AH-6.
  • Boeing Vertol YUH-61.
  • Boeing Vertol XCH-62.
  • MH-139 Gray Wolf (with Leonardo SpA)

Akasa also gave order to Boeing

Akasa Air on Thursday placed an order for 150 Boeing 737 Max aircraft. The less than two-year-old airline wants to expand its domestic and international operations, for which it has been given this order. The airline said in a statement that the latest order includes 737 Max 10 and 737 Max 8-200 jets. With this, the airline will be able to get continuous aircraft till 2032. This will strengthen the company’s domestic and international expansion plans. Akasa Air had placed an initial order for 72 Boeing 737 Max aircraft in 2021. After this, the company ordered four Boeing 737 Max-8 aircraft in June 2023.
