Bihar police sho Saran district officer arrested for snatching Rs 32 lakh from man lclnt

A police officer was arrested on Saturday for stopping a person’s car and snatching Rs 32 lakh from him in Bihar’s Saran district. An official said that SHO of Maker police station Ravi Ranjan Kumar has been arrested, home guard Anil Kumar was also allegedly involved in the crime, who is absconding. Superintendent of Police Kumar Ashish said that the SHO has been suspended and departmental proceedings have been initiated against him.

The SP said, ‘A person named Rohan Kumar lodged a complaint on Friday that two people wearing police uniform snatched Rs 32 lakh from him near Rewa Ghat.’ He told the police that this incident happened when he was going to Muzaffarpur in his car.

The person was carrying Rs 64 lakh
According to his complaint, he was carrying Rs 64 lakh in two bags. His vehicle was stopped by a police vehicle of Maker police station. The SP said that two policemen checked his vehicle and asked whether he had liquor bottles with him or not. According to the complaint, one of the policemen kept both the bags in the police vehicle, but after some time one of them returned one of the bags to Kumar and asked him to leave the spot. The SP told the media that the policeman also threatened to register a false case against the complainant for violation of the prohibition law.

It is known that Bihar is a prohibition state, where the sale and consumption of liquor is banned since April 2016. The matter was investigated by a senior police officer and it was found that the allegations made by the complainant were true. Later the police arrested the SHO.

Home guard Anil Kumar absconding
The SP said, ‘Police also recovered Rs 32 lakh from the house of home guard Anil Kumar, who was with the SHO at the time of the incident. Anil Kumar is absconding. The SP said that further investigation revealed that the complainant had Rs 64 lakh and he was going to Muzaffarpur with the money he got after selling his land. He said that investigation into the matter is ongoing.
