New Delhi. The auction of 5G spectrum in India has been completed. However, the rollout of 5G is yet to happen. During the 7-day auction process last month, India’s largest telecom company Reliance Jio has got the most rights by spending the most. It is followed by Airtel and Vodafone Idea. However, only Jio and Airtel have officially shown their plans for rollout on August 2022. Earlier, many reports have shown that the company can start 5G on Independence Day on 15th August. Till now the companies have not given information about an official date, here we are now telling about them.
Earlier this month, Akash Ambani, chairperson of Reliance Jio Infocomm, said that the company will celebrate the ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’ with a pan-India 5G rollout. The company has promised to provide “affordable 5G service” like its 4G network in India.
Jio has spent the most during the long auction of 5G spectrum. The company acquired nearly half of all the airwaves sold, valued at over Rs 88,000 crore. Jio has also acquired spectrum in the premium 700MHz band. In the meantime, WE is more valuable than the high end of the 1GHz or more affordable 600MHz band because support for 700MHz is globally on many devices.
Airtel clearly states in a blog post that it will bring 5G to India in August 2022. The company has networked partnerships with Ericsson, Nokia and Samsung to start the project. Airtel has not acquired any spectrum in the 700 MHz band. However, it has bought a total of 19.8 GHz of spectrum in the 900 MHz, 1800 MHz, 2100 MHz, 3300 MHz and 26 GHz bands. Airtel CTO Randeep Sekho had also told that the price of 5G plan in India will be the same as 4G subscription.
During this time Vodafone Idea bought spectrum in the auction for Rs 18,799. Vodafone Idea has bought mid-band 5G spectrum in 17 earlier circles. The company has not yet clarified the rollout plan in India.
Adani Data Network Limited, a subsidiary of the Adani Group, was among the four companies that participated in the auction conducted by the Department of Telecom. It acquired spectrum in just 26GHz band and spent Rs 212 crore. Adani has clarified that it will build a network for business and currently has no plans to roll out to regular customers. Prime Minister Narendra Modi also talked about the launch of 5G service in India during his Independence Day speech from Red Fort today. At the same time, many reports suggest that PM Modi will launch 5G on September 29 at the inauguration of India Mobile Congress (IMC).
