Social media platform X (formerly known as Twitter) has recently taken stringent action against accounts found in violation of its policies in India, closing over 2 lakh accounts. This significant move comes as part of the platform’s ongoing efforts to maintain a safe and secure online environment for its users.
In its monthly report, X revealed that a total of 2.13 lakh accounts were suspended in India due to various breaches of company policy. Among these accounts, many were found to be engaged in activities related to terrorism, prompting immediate action from the platform.
The crackdown on illicit accounts occurred between February 26 and March 25, 2024, with X swiftly responding to instances of policy violations. These violations ranged from posting obscene content to promoting terrorist ideologies.
According to the report, a staggering 2,12,627 accounts were flagged for sharing illegal and harmful content, while an additional 1,235 accounts were identified for their involvement in promoting terrorism within India.
X emphasized its commitment to combating the dissemination of inappropriate content, particularly content involving child sexual exploitation. The platform remains vigilant across all media formats, including text, images, and computer-generated files.
The platform’s proactive stance against policy violations underscores its dedication to upholding community standards and ensuring a safe digital space for users.
