BGMI is banned in India. Now the Government of India has also confirmed this. Let us tell you what is the reason given by the government for this.
Battlegrounds Mobile India was banned on July 28, 2022 i.e. Friday night. The game was launched last year and is now banned from Google Play Store and Apple App Store in India.
BGMI was removed from Google Play Store and Apple App Store only last night but there was no response from the Government of India. However, now according to a latest report by Reuters, the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) has said that it has banned the game under the same IT laws, under which 118 apps were banned in 2020. According to the central government, BGMI is also based on PUBG Mobile.
The reason given by the Indian government
The central government said that BGMI was sharing users’ data with China, so BGMI has been banned in India due to national security. Let us tell you that in 2020, the Government of India had first banned 118 apps under Indian IT Law Section 69A.
South Korean company Crafton launched Battlegrounds Mobile India or BGMI in India last year. This mobile game is a rehashed version of the company’s popular shooting game PUBG Mobile, which was banned by the Indian government, including several other Chinese apps, citing a threat to the “security of the country”.
What Krafton said
On the removal of BGMI from the Play Store, Google said in a statement, “Upon order, following established procedure, we have notified the affected developer and blocked access to the app available on the Play Store in India.”
In the meantime, Crafton said, “We’re clarifying how BGMI was removed from Google Play and we’ll let you know once we have specifics.” However, now the Government of India has clarified why this game has been banned in India.
