According to the report, AV-TEST tested Windows Defender, Avira, McAfee, Avast, AVG, and several other antivirus programs. They tested various aspects of their work: how they deal with zero-day malware, cyber attacks, infected emails, etc. The technicians used the most recent publicly available version of all products.
The built-in Windows Defender turned out to be the best. It scored excellent in all aspects of security, performance, and usability. Other software from vendors such as McAfee and Avast also received high marks, but Windows Defender is the only free antivirus solution.
